Meet Our Pastor

Who is Rev. Edouard Isolo Kabamba

Pastor | Preacher | Teacher | Servant Leader

Rev. Edouard Isolo Kabamba is a United Methodist pastor who is passionate about proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, building communities of faith, and helping people discover the transforming power of God’s grace and love.

He believes that the church is called not only to worship God within its walls, but also to be a faithful presence in the community, serving, listening, welcoming, advocating, and sharing the hope of Christ with all people. His ministry is grounded in the Wesleyan understanding of holiness of heart and life, expressed through both personal faith and social holiness.

Rev. Kabamba currently serves as the lead pastor of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, and Cheverly United Methodist Church in Cheverly, Maryland, where he began his appointment in July 2025. In these communities, he seeks to cultivate churches where people can experience belonging, grow in faith, discover their gifts, and participate in God’s mission in the world.

A Call To Ministry

Rev. Kabamba was born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where his faith and call to ministry were nurtured within the United Methodist Church. He is the son of a United Methodist pastor, and from an early age he witnessed the power of pastoral ministry, Christian community, and service to others.

His journey of ministry has taken him across different cultures and nations. He received missionary training in Cambodia and participated in mission experiences in Thailand, Laos, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. These experiences deepened his conviction that although the church is expressed through many cultures and traditions, the Gospel of Jesus Christ calls people into one community of faith, love, and service.

He was ordained in the United Methodist Church in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2021 and continued his theological and pastoral formation in the United States.

Education and Theological Formation

Rev. Kabamba earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Africa University in Zimbabwe in 2019. He later pursued graduate theological education at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., earning a Master of Theological Studies (MTS) in 2025.

His theological interests include Wesleyan theology, Christian worship, the sacraments, discipleship, social holiness, and the church’s role in God’s work of reconciliation and transformation in the world.

His ministry reflects a deep conviction that theological education is not simply about acquiring knowledge, but about becoming better equipped to love God, serve people, and participate faithfully in Christ’s mission.

Having lived, studied, worshiped, and served across different cultures and countries, Rev. Kabamba brings a global perspective to his ministry. His experiences in Africa, Asia, and the United States have strengthened his appreciation for the diversity of Christ’s Church.

He sees cultural diversity not as an obstacle to Christian unity, but as an opportunity to witness the many ways God is at work among God’s people. His ministry seeks to build bridges across cultures, generations, and traditions while keeping Christ at the center.

His Ministry Philosophy can be summarized in three words: Faith, Community, Transformation.

  • Faith: because everything begins with our relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
  • Community: because Christianity is not a solitary journey. We are called to walk together, worship together, pray together, and serve together.
  • Transformation: because the grace of God does not leave us where it finds us. God continually calls us to become more Christlike and to participate in the transformation of our communities and world.

For Rev. Kabamba, pastoral ministry is ultimately a ministry of presence: being present with God, being present with people, and being present where God is already at work.

A Word from Our Pastor

Rev. Kabamba invites everyone — those who have been part of the church for generations, those who are searching for a church home, those who are returning to faith, and those who are simply curious — to come, worship, grow, and discover what God is doing in and through the community.

There is a place for you here. There is room for your story. There is room for your gifts. And there is room for you to grow.

 Welcome to our church family.
